My favourite photo is the reflected shoreline. Beautiful silhouette. For my taste, I made it a portrait on my iPad by cropping left and right sides to just eliminate any open white space on the left. It brings the duck into play and makes me wonder if it is a point, or a pond. It is astounding how you turned the Utah photo into a treasure by brightening the canyon!
That’s one way to avoid the imbalance of the original! I’m glad you found a crop that works for you. I’ll try that myself this evening.
Camera sensor technology these days is astounding. The amount of shadow recovery you can do if you shoot raw almost eliminates the amount of technical knowledge you need as long as you expose for the highlights. It simplifies the process so much; fifteen years ago, that finished image would have needed to be a composite of at least two images because you simply couldn’t have recovered the shadows enough.
I think it’s great because people can start shooting landscapes and working on composition right at the start instead of needing to spend so much time understanding how to work a camera. That’s a skill they can develop over time now.
Dallas 2023 is stunning!
Thank you! I think that’s my favorite too.
